This is a fun-filled event that celebrates the musical contributions of world-renowned jazz guitar legend Charlie Christian, who grew up in Oklahoma City. This event features jazz, blues, contemporary, Western and old-school gospel music. Wes was an extension of the late great jazz guitarist Charlie Christian, who played with saxophone-like single note fluidity. Charlie Christian is apparently a very early pioneer of the electric guitar. Gleason, Wes expressed just how strong Christian's influence was on him. The Texas Historical Plaque states: "As a child, Bonham (Tx) native Charles (Charlie) Christian was exposed to the Guitar artistry & soprano solos of his parents Clarence & Willie Mae Christian. In his momentary life, Christian would almost single-handedly invent the modern guitar solo—and establish the electric guitar as a weapon of choice in jazz and popular music. Though you can add all kinds of fancy effects to achieve your desired sound, remember that genuine, straight-ahead jazz doesn't really require them. (Recorded 1994) There is a dispute of the location of his grave.. Consider Barney Kessel and Charlie Christian, two true jazz guitar giants. So, these tracks are early: close to jazz's honky-tonk, Dixieland, and blues roots.
